See what I mean?

Pulmonarias are one of my favourite plants, but for their leaves, not flowers. At this time of year I’m cutting off stems one by one as they finish flowering, just waiting for all that to be over so they can put their energy into producing those magnificent blotchy leaves. I only hold back from whipping all the flower stalks off completely for the sake of bees.

I do have one exception though – Pulmonaria ‘Opal’ has lovely pale blue flowers on sturdy stems that last for much longer than its unkempt relatives.

new-pulmNeedless to say once this one has done its stuff I’ll be digging it up and splitting it to go all around the garden.

  1. Welcome to the world of blogging Julia!

Pulmonaria’s a great bee plant for those warmer days early in the year when they clean the hive and go out for a spot of foraging. I’ve guerrilla gardened a fair bit too – shhhhhh!
