Christopher Lloyd, when asked what was his favourite flower, is widely reported to have said ‘the one I am looking at now’, and I know exactly what he meant. Looking around the garden this May morning, so many of my favourites are in bloom that it is difficult to decide which is lovelier than the other.
Next week there will be another new flower to tug at the heart strings. So I shall introduce you to each one as it comes into bloom as if it was my favourite, when in truth I love them all.
Here is my first, Syringa vulgaris ‘Sensation’. Not planted here by me, but by a previous resident who was a florist by trade, this beautiful shrub looks perfect here in my cottage garden.
