Favourite flower friday

Sweet-pea-beaujolaisSweet pea ‘Beaujolais’

I grow a different variety of sweet pea from seed every year. For this year I chose ‘Beaujolais’ from Kings Seeds, and rate them amongst the nicest I have grown.

The flowers are a gorgeous burgundy colour, with long stems and a subtle fragrance, and the blooms seem to last longer as cut flowers than others I have grown in previous years.

They have been flowering non-stop in my veg bed since May, so after picking them every few days for three months I have left them on the plants for the last few weeks where they have managed just as well.

September, and even after weeks of neglect they look pretty good.

  1. Hi Julia
I agree that ‘Beaujolais’ is one of the best. Could I suggest you try ‘Sir Henry Cecil’ next year, a beautiful and unusual ‘flake’ variety. I grew it this year and it was my personal favourite.
