Christmas Day is almost here. It will be busy and stressful for some, for others a quiet and reflective time. I have always found that a lovely thing to do on the day is to take half an hour to look around my garden to count the flowers that are in bloom on Christmas Day – it never ceases to amaze what surprises there will be in store for me.
This old gardening tradition has been revived by The Cottage Garden Society. Some of our members make lists and send them in to me. The longest lists or most unusual flowers noted may be published on our website or in our quarterly journal. It is interesting to compare the results both geographically and over the years. In some parts of the UK we have had a fairly mild winter so far, so there may be some surprises!
You can post your findings on the CGS Facebook or Twitter pages – such a nice way to share your garden on Christmas Day with fellow Cottage Gardeners.
Enjoy your Christmas, and your Garden! And have a very happy New Year too – Julia.
